The guys and girls of station 16 are all doing our own thing to remember this
horrible day 4 years ago. But each and everyone of us have not forgotten! GONE BUT
NOT FORGOTTEN!!!!!
September 10th - Collingdale Safety Day
Rescue 16 with Lt Kunkle (16-13), Lt McCarty (16-13A), Kim McCarty, and Lucky
McCarty spent the day participating in the annual Collingdale Safety Day. Thank you
to Collingdale for a great day and we look forward to seeing you next year.
September 10th - Water Filled Basement
Company 16 was dispatched to the 600 Block of Yeadon Ave for a service call around
3pm. A/C Melazzo (16-9A) arrived to find about 4 feet of water in the basement and
very extensive damage to the upper floors of the home. The homeowner stated they
hadn't been in the house for at least a week, and it appeared the water may have
been leaking from the second floor. A/C Melazzo requested the response of Yeadon
Car 1. F/M Matt Black (YC1) and Deputy Fire Marshal/Code Officer Stokes (YC1A) arrived
and assessed the situation. Also making the response was the Borough Emergency Management
Director. A/C Melazzo had Company 22 dispatched for their specialized basement pumping
equipment. The borough officials deemed the water safe to dispose of in the public
sewer and the crews got to work. 4 feet of water was discarded in about 90 minutes.
The borough officials deemed the home uninhabitable and placed some placards stating
such. Overall the crews were on scene for just under 3 hours. Great Job to everyone
on scene.

September 8th - Lew Epright Jr Retires the Radio Room and Kelly Epright gets
cleared
The officers and members would like to congratulate Lew Epright Jr on his new
job with Dupont. Today was his last day at the radio room and we will miss hearing
him on the radio. Kelly Epright also got some good news of her own today, she was
cleared to ride solo as a Delco Medic. We are all proud of both of you!!! Keep up
the great work
September 2nd to 5th - Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund
The Yeadon Fire Company #1 in conjuction with Yeadon Fire Company Auxiliary,
Darby Fire Company #1, and East Lansdowne Fire Company had a fill the boot campaign
to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. As of now (September 7th) the crews
have raised over $22,000 towards the effort. We all would like to thank the community
for your support in our effort. We could not have done it without everyone that was
involved!! THANK YOU!!!!!!




September 8th - Gas Main Break
Company 16 was dispatched to 436 S. Lansdowne Ave for a gas leak outside. Engine
16-1 under the command of A/C Melazzo (16-9A) was advised by fireboard that Lt Foltz
(24-13A) was on location advising that it was a 2 inch gas pipe that was broken by
a back hoe. FB also advised that when made aware of this, they contacted PECO for
the emergency response (great job John!!). Upon arrival crews found that indeed there
was what looked like a 2 inch high pressure pipe leaking gas. Crews evacuated the
immediate area and set up the incident command system, along with dispatching the
building response. Lansdowne Ave Command was A/C Melazzo, Safety Officer was C/E
DiIenno (16-14), Operations was Lt McCarty (16-13A), and EMS Command was EMT Alosi
(105). Fireboard advised of the weather conditions and crews continued to monitor
gas levels in surrounding building until the arrival of PECO. PECO arrived very quickly
and shut capped the leak. Crews made sure there was still no gas in the buildings
and cleared the call. Crews were in service for about 45 minutes.

September 6th - Second Alarm Reponse to Darby
Company 16 was dispatched on the second alarm to 36 and 38 Summit Street for
the working building fire. Chief Nauss (04-9) had two row homes with heavy fire in
the rear of the building. Medic 04 under the command of Lt Booth (04-13A) had arrived
to find two homes well involved with fire in the rear, when the company was originally
dispatched for the trash fire. The trash spread to a car which then spread to the
two homes. Crews from 16 (Ladder 16, Engine 16-1, and 16-7A) assisted in various
tasks that were asked of by 04-9A who had command in the front of the building. 16-7A
had a transport to Mercy Fitz while on the fireground (non firefighter related).

September 3rd - Parkview Building Response
August 31st - Truck and EMS to Darby Boro Working Fire
The Truck and Ambulance assisted Company 04 on a building fire. PD arrived to
find heavy smoke showing from a Single Family Dwelling. Darby #1 Chief Tom Nauss
(04-9) added Ladder 16 and RIT 19 to assignment, which already included 04, 21, 10,
and 42. 16-7A was later added by EMS Command due to a BLS transport of a injured
firefighter, leaving no BLS transport trucks on the scene. Crews had heavy smoke
throughout the 2nd and 3rd floor. Interior crews under the command of Darby #1 Assistant
Chief Jason O'Neill (04-9A) and Darby #1 Captain Chris Caruso (04-12) found that
the fire was between two of three walls on the outside of the house. Crews were on
scene for about 2 hours.

August 30th - Building Fire
At around dinner time Yeadon Fire Company was dispatched to 1000 Block of Serrill
ave for a building fire. Crews arrived on scene and were advised by the PD that there
may be a problem with the water heater. The homeowner stated that it was extremely
hot in the house when he came home. He had not been home for the previous two weeks.
The crew went to the basment and found a path of water that was from the water heater
and turned it off. The then noticed white spots on the basement cieling. They then
notified fireboard to contact the code department to respond. Yeadon Car 1A arrived
and investigated the problem in the basement and it appears to be mold growing from
the malfuncationing water heater.




August 27th - Accident with Entrapment and 2nd Alarm Response to Darby
At around 1715 hrs the fire company was dispatched to the 1400 block of longacre
blvd for a vehicle accident with a vehicle overturned. The police arrived and confirmed
the dispatched and also advised that there was also a person trapped inside the vehicle.
The ambulance with the asisstance of Fitzgerald Mercy medics started pt care while
the fire company crews started rescue operations. Rescue operations were under the
command of Assistant Chief Mike Himes (16-9A) while Chief Craig Jeffries (16-9) was
the Incident Commander. The crew stabilized the vehicle and extricated the person
in about 25 minutes and the pt was then transported to the University of Pennsylvania
Hospital Emergency Room.
The company was in service for about 1hr and 30 minutes




Later
on in the evening of the 27, Company 16 was requested by Darby Fire Company to assist
them on a dwelling fire at 1010 school street. Police went on location with heavy
fire on 2nd floor of the structure. Company 16 assisted with ventilation and overhaul
of the structure. The residences of the property was helped out of the burning structure
by her son and a neighbor on the block. Companies went available without any incident.
The company was under the command of Chief Jeffries.

August 24th - Brush Fire
Company 16 and 24 was dispatched to Parkview Court Apartments 2200 Alfred drive
for a brush fire. TAC 16 on location under the command of Assistant Chief Mike Himes,
They found a small brush fire in the rear of the 2200 alfred drive on the other side
of the fence on the CSX tracks. Tac 16 place the booster line in service with the
foam activated to extuinguished the brush fire. Held the respond to TAC 16. On scene
for about 30 mins. Later in the day. Company 16 and 24 was dispatched for a gas leak
at 743 Revere Rd at the request of PECO who was already on location. The leak was
caused by the maintenance department who replaced the stove earlier in the day and
did not check for leaks before leaving. Company went avaialbe within 20 minutes.
