Yeadon Car1A responded and arrived to find medium smoke in the house. After checking both properties, we placed a fan in service to remove the smoke from the building, but the strong odor of something burning made all the companies wonder it something was burning in the walls or floors of one of these properties. Clifton Heights, & East Lansdowne crews checked the one property and Millbourne & Llanerch checked the other home for the source. While checking the next-door neighbor's home they did notice smoke in the attic that was coming from the adjacent property. While Clifton Heights & Llanech crews were checking the kitchen for the source of smoke, they notice that the floor in front of the windows was extremely hot to the touch. After trying to remove part of the floor covering, they requested the other crews to check the garage ceiling. After pulling the garage ceiling, we found that there was a smoldering fire in the ceiling area. The ceiling and smoldering insulation was pulled. Most of the kitchen floor was removed to check for extension of fire in the floor. Because the smoldering fire was right, next to the plumbing vent pipe the smoke traveled the pipe chase and went into both properties Peco Energy was call to shut off the utilities. Fuel spill-Accident
Company 16 was dispatched to the fitzgerald mercy hospital parking lot for a fuel spill. Upon arrival of the Rescue & Tac, it was determined that someone try to make a exit where there was not one. There was a mini-van that drove over a parking spot barricade and ruptured the gas tank. The worst part of this call was that it happen just inches from the storm drain in the parking lot. Several gallons of fuel spilled into the drain. There was a sewer outlet about 500 feet from the first one and there was gas in that one also. Chief Melazzo contacted the Fire marshal's office for maps of the storm drainage system. Our maps did not cover the parking lot area of the hospital. Hospital administrators were on scence assisting the fire companies. The area of the parking lot may have been in Darby Borough so Assist Chief Melazzo had Co 04 dispatched to the scene. Darby Command 16-12 Capt Chiz contacted fireboard and requested them to contact the DEP in reference to the gas in the storm drainage system. After the vehicle was remove by Herby towing , more oil dry was placed on the spill fuel to contain it. A dike was placed around the drain to keep further gas from running into the storm drainage system. Darby Fire company had to remove the fuel from the storm dranage system throughout Darby. The storm drain in the hospital parking lot actually connected to the darby storm drain system. The companies were on location for several hours taking care of this possible explosive problem.
