LODD - Station 39 Lower Chichester, Delaware County
UPPER CHICHESTER, PA -- On Wed. March 5th, The BOX was transmitted for the
reported house fire on Moser Street in Upper Chichester . Units from 39 arrived reporting a working 2 story
single family dwelling with neighbors reporting a dog still missing inside. While doing a primary search of the
dwelling, a firefighter got lost in the basement. The RIC Team was deployed to assist with finding the missing
member trapped. While doing the search of the basement, crews were pulled back to first floor as the fire
over took the basement. Firefighters from Green Ridge did locate the missing member and pulled the Lt.
from the burning house. In all, three Firefighters were transported from the scene to Crozer Chester Medical
Center
with injuries. The fire reached 3 alarms before being brought under control.

UPDATE: The Public Safety Director of Lower Chichester has identified the firefighter killed this morning as
Lt. Nicholas Picozzi, Jr. Lt. Picozzi died at 10:30 am this morning at Chester Crozer medical Center. Picozzi,
was a volunteer Lieutenant with the Lower Chichester Fire Company 39. The other two Firefighters injured
during the rescue were from the Green Ridge Volunteer Fire Company 63. All were both transported to the
Crozer Chester Medical Center with injuries from the fire.
Our thoughts and prayers are with our Brother's Family, Friends and Fire Departments involved.

CLEAN UP AFTER MVA

March 2nd, 2008

At 06:03hrs. Rescue 16 arrived on location along with 24-1. Tow truck was on scene and police. Crews cleaned up the spilled fluids on the highway and cleared the debris on the road. Crews then went available.

CO DETECTOR

March 1st, 2008

At 19:05hrs.Upon arrival of 16-1, 16-9 & EMS was already on location.  Occupant called fire co. due to Co detector beeping, crews checked air inside residence with gas meters and found no trouble.  Possible faulty detector, occupant had newer batteries on hand, occupant replaced battery in CO detector and remounted on wall in 2nd floor bedroom.  No other trouble found,  company went available.

BUSY THURSDAY

February 28th, 2008

.At 02:24hrs. Company dispatched to assist Co. 24 with cleanup after the accident.  Rescue 16 responded at reduced speed to assist with oil dry.  Company assisted with the clean up and then cleared.  Company available.

 

At 14:45hrs. Companies dispatched for a motor vehicle with entrapment.  16-9A went on location with vehicle on its roof, PECO pole down, no fire and positive entrapment.  Rescue 16 and Rescue 19 arrived the scene and began extrication.  The rear windshield was broken out and the vehicle was cut between both c-posts and the rear was then peeled downward.  The driver of the vehicle was extricated through the passage created and Medic 16-7 transported her to Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania .  The driver of the vehicle was the only occupant of the vehicle.  Crews of Rescue 16 and Tac 16 cleaned up after the vehicle was removed.  Rescue 19 responded to second accident in town.  Companies then went available.

 

At 15:27hrs. While 16 was still on mva w entrapment another accident was dispatched in 16’s local at Rescue 19 handled that call.

At 23:15hrs. Company 16 for rescue 16 dispatched to 77 E. Plumstead for a building fire. Enroute to the call Rescue 16 recalled by 19 command. Available at 2326hrs.

 

R.I.T. TO CLIFTON HEIGHTS

February 23rd, 2008

At 10:50hrs. Company 16 for RIT 16 dispatched to 241 Cambridge Rd. In Clifton Heights for working fire.

RIT16 on location and was placed on standby in the rear of Quint 03. 
Rescue 16 filled 12 SCBA's and helped crews pack 5 inch hose. 

RIT 16 was available at 1050hrs.

HAZMAT AT MOUNT MORIAH CEMETERY

February 19th, 2008

At 14:09hrs. Companies 16 and 24 dispatched to Mount Moriah Cemetery for a hazmat. Fire board advised that PFD Pipeline 40 was on location with propane leaking and another unknown substance.

Upon arrival of Rescue 16, PFD was no longer on location. Crews staged at the entrance of the cemetery. 16-9A assumed Command and requested fire board to notify PFD dispatch to have Pipeline 40 respond back to the scene. Per fire board, PFD Dispatch stated they will not respond back because the incident is in Yeadon. At this point 16-9 arrived and assumed command and had fire board request a Battalion Chief from PFD respond. Per fire board, PFD dispatch gave the same response, that the incident was in Yeadon and PFD units would not respond. At this point, Command requested the phone number for the Commissioners office. Fire board advised Command that the Battalion Chief was requesting that Delaware County Hazmat team make the response. Per Command, the Hazmat team was not be activated.


Pipeline 40 arrived back at the scene shortly after and advised Command of what they had found at 14:40. Situation was discussed with Pipeline 40 Command and all units went to the location of the release. Crews investigated and found that the other substance was ansul powder in a 5 lb bag. Also found was 8 M size O2 cylinders and 4 D size O2 cylinders. Situation was found to be of no danger and all companies were made available by Command.

WORKING FIRE

February 16th, 2008

At 16:31hrs. Companies 16,19,24, 21, and 04 to 2301 Alfred Dr for a building fire. PD arrived and reported a working fire. 16-9 added Company 03 for the RIT assignment and had all companies re dispatched for a working fire. 16-9 assumed Parkview Command upon arrival. 16-1 arrived and dropped 5 inch from the hydrant and went in service with an 1 3/4" hose line. Command added Company 09 for manpower. Crews made a knock on the fire and made a search. Incoming crews checked the remaining apartments and found no victims. Truck crews opened up the roof in two areas. Command requested the fire marshals office as well as PECO, Red Cross, and Board Up. Board up was later cancelled due to Parkview using their own contractor. Red Cross arrived and was requested to find housing arrangements for 11 people. The entire building was found to be uninhabitable by FD and Fire Marshall officials.

COVER ASSIGNMENT

February 12th, 2008

At 14:20hrs. Companies 03, 19, RIT 16, 74 and 44 dispatched to Clifton Heights for a building fire. RIT 16 was cancelled enroute.

At 16:58hrs. Companies 22, 37, Upper Darby 11 & 12, 24, Truck 19 and Rescue 16 dispatched to Millbourne for a building fire. Company 37 stated they had a matress fire and the fire was out. 22 Command held Upper Darby 11 & 12, Co.22, Co.37 and Truck 19 on scene and recalled the balance.

At 19:09hrs. Engine 16 and Truck 19 dispatched to 510 Clifton Ave. to cover Collingdale Fire Company #1 Station 06. Companies 16 & 19 were released a short time later when companies went available from their working fire. 

R.I.T. TO CLIFTON RECALLED

February 10th, 2008

At 08:57hrs. RIT 16 dispatched to Clifton Heights for a building fire. 16-13A on location with nothing showing from the exterior. 03-9 cancelled assignment after talking with Clifton P.D. stating this was a bad call. 

ASSIST EMS W/LIFTING

February 10th, 2008

At 09:32hrs. Company 16 was dispatched to assist EMS with lifting a patient. Rescue 16 and TAC 16 arrived on location and assisted M16-7 with lifting. Available from scene at 10:00hrs.

AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM

February 5th, 2008

At 14:13hrs. Companies 16, 19 and 24 dispatched to 550 Penn St. for an automatic fire alarm.

16-1 on location with no showing from the exterior and investigating. Holding 16-1 balance can recall.

  Faulty smoke detector. Owner stated alarm tech will be in tomorrow to fix smoke detectors.

 

AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM

February 4th, 2008

At 01:51hrs. Company 16 and 04 dispatched for a fire alarm.  Upon arrival, police advised that apartment C had a smoke detector activation and that no one was answering the door.  Immediately, contacted fire board and requested maintenance.  Upon arrival of maintenance, entry was made and found an empty pot on the burner.  The pot was empty and the burner was red hot. We removed the pot from the heat source and ventilated the building for the light smoke condition. Company then went available.

AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM

February 3rd, 2008

At 10:25hrs. Company 16 dispatched to for an automatic fire alarm. 16-9A recalled assignment. Found incents burning in a back room which had set off smoke detector. Fire Marshall was notified.

At 21:33hrs. Company 16 for RIT 16 dispatched to Clifton Heights for a building fire. RIT 16 cancelled by 03-9.

LIGHTING ASSIST

February 1st, 2008

At 17:39hrs. Companies 16, 19, 24, 03 and RIT 09 dispatched to Essex and Maple for a building fire. All companies were recalled when assignment was unfounded.

At 22:17hrs. Company 16 for Rescue 16 was dispatched to Wycombe Ave. and MacDade Blvd. to assist Darby Police Department with lighting. Darby P.D. was looking for bullet casing's from an earlier shooting.

 

AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM

JANUARY 30th, 2008

At 17:23HRS. Companies 16, 19, and 24 dispatched to 550 Penn St for the alarm bells. Crews arrived and found detector to have been tripped by steam from a humidifier used in the processing of products in the business. Companies made available by 16-9

CAR ACCIDENT

January 29th, 2008

 

At 13:08HRS. Companies 19, 16, 03 and 24 dispatched to 9 E. Stewart Ave. for a building fire.

  19 Command holding 19 and canceling the balance.

Available at 1318hrs.

 

1554HRS. Company 16 dispatched to 550 S. Lansdowne Ave. to assist EMS with lifting.

 

Arrived on location and assisted M16-7 with lifting their patient into the ambulance and at the hospital helping them take the patient out of the ambulance.

  Available from scene at 1430hrs.

 

1703HRS. Dispatched and cancelled at station for an MVA.  EMS crew found no fire service needed and transported 1 patient.

 

 

BUILDING FIRE

January, 25th to 27th, 2008

Company 16 has been busy the last three days being dispatched for one automatic fire alarm and five building fire's. They were dispatched for building fire in Millbourne and Lansdowne and recalled. The other three building calls were in Yeadon and all were recalled do to no fire.

 

AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM

January 22nd, 2008

At 22:14hrs. Companies 16,19 and 24 dispatched for a fire alarm at 6250 Baltimore Ave found to be a pull station at amoroso baking company  alarm was reset Maintance was notified and did respond  while waiting for Maintance a second alarm went off at union packing crews checked on alarm and found to be a water flow on the riser.

At 10:47hrs. Company 16 was dispatched to Patricia drive for fire alarm upon arrival found to be cleaner working on rugs. Company went available from scene.

BUILDING

At 19:58hrs. Companies 19, 16, 03, 24 and RIT 09 dispatched to E. Plumstead Ave in Lansdowne for a building fire. Rescue 16 was cancelled enroute by 19 command.

ASSIST EMS

Millbourne Fire Company Station 22 covered Station 16 for our banquet. 22 was dispatched to assist EMS unit with lifting.

Company 04 and 16 dispatched to MacDade and Wycombe for a vehicle fire. 04 on location and had fire put out upon 16’s arrival. Crews went available after crews were assure fire was out.

1417pm.

 Company 16 dispatched to Church Lane for a gas leak.  16 crews arrived and found a slight odor in the basement.  Meter showed no reading.  PECO was notified and company made available. Broken/ rupture hot water heater

Company 19 handled a pot of meat while 16 apparatus was on Alarm at 1417pm

Friday January 11th, 2008

At 1242pm Companies 16 and 04 were dispatched for a building fire.  Upon arrival, crew of 04-1 advised no fire.  Company investigated and recalled the assignment.

 

AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM

Thursday January 10th, 2008

At 1609pm Companies 16, 19, and 24 dispatched for the alarm bells.  Upon arrival alarm was not sounding.  Crews awaited a key holder and investigated the home.  The alarm panel was showing trouble and resident advised that smoke detector was chirping like it needed a battery earlier in the day.  Crews checked the whole home and found no problems.  Companies made available.

MVA W/INJURIES

Company 16 was dispatched for an MVA with injuries. M16-7 and 16-7A transported two patients to local hospital and Rescue 16 cleaned debris and fluids from roadway.

Company 16 for the RIT was dispatched to 03's local. RIT 16 was cancelled enroute to the call.

 

GAS LEAK

Tuesday January 8th, 2008

Company 16 dispatched for a gas leak after a Verizon work crew struck a gas line. Upon arrival of 16-1, PECO was already on location fixing the incident. Company 16 was made available.

AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM

Sunday January 6th, 2008

At 1106am Companies 16, 19 and 04 dispatched to Manor Care Yeadon for an AFA. 16-9B arrived on location and found a light smoke condition in the basement from a malfunctioning microwave. Truck 19 ventilated via PPV. Maintenance was notified and microwave was placed outside.

At 1011am Company 16 dispatched to assist EMS with lifting. Rescue crew helped EMS crews with lifting and went available.

INVESTIGATION

Saturday January 5th, 2008

At 1132am Company 16 dispatched to 900 Bailey Rd. for an investigation. 16-9A notified fireboard to call emergency contact because Engine 16 would be making entry in building for the smell of fuel burning. Engine 16 crew found that in the basement a heater had backfired. Maintance arrived on location and crews went available.

BUSY DAY FOR 16

Friday January 4th, 2008

At 1132am Company 16, 04 and 19 dispatched to 14 Lincoln Ave. Manor Care Yeadon for an automatic fire alarm. Yeadon Car1A and 19-9 on location and found out that a contractor had drilled into the alarm system box. Maintance was notified and call was recalled.

At 1613pm Company 16 for the RIT was dispatched to 4 Rockbourne in Clifton Heights for a building fire in a furniture store. Crews were on location and found it was a PECO pole on fire. Crews were released once fire was put out. 

At 1701pm Companies 19, 16 and 03 dispatched to Madison Ave. for a building fire. 19-9 on location and call was recalled.

At 1733pm Companies 16, 04 and 19 dispatched to 14 Lincoln Ave. for an automatic fire alarm. Called was cancelled do to accidentally tripped.

INVESTIGATION

Thursday January 3rd, 2008

At 1134am Company 16 dispatched to Fairview Ave. for an investigation. 16-13 arrived on location and resident stated that she was smelling a weird smell in her basement. Investigated and nothing was found. Call was recalled.

MVA W/ENTRAPMENT

Wednesday January 2nd, 2008

At 0947am Companies 16 and Rescue 19 dispatched to MacDade Ave. and Bell Ave. for an accident with entrapment. M105-9 arrived on location and found the accident at MacDade Ave. and Rundale Ave. and that it was a car vs. a telephone pole. M105-9 advised there was no entrapment but the patient was unconscious. Rescue 16 arrived on location and assisted M16 with patient packaging and applied oil dry once the tow truck removed the car.

AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM

At 0206am Company 16 dispatched for an automatic fire alarm. Fireboard notified 16-9A and stated owner was on location and placed the right codes in fire alarm box and alarm shut off. 16-9A on location and investigated and alarm was accidentally tripped by owner. 16-9A recalled assignment.
